katharine smyth all the lives i ever lived

Katharine Smyth’s All the Lives We Ever Lived is a number of things: a memoir about growing up in New England; an elegiac essay about the passing of a father; an atypical work of criticism about Virginia Woolf’s 1927 novel To the Lighthouse. Critics are enamored with the book and particularly the lyrical style of the author, a Brown graduate who’s long spent summers in Rhode Island. Lest this all sound too academic, it’s not; Vulture called it “One of the Best Books of 2019 So Far.”
