Kid Congo Powers was around for the birth of LA punk. He co-founded The Gun Club, though he ducked out of the band pretty early on to play guitar with The Cramps. He later spent a decade as one of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds, but most recently he’s been low-key doing his own thing, a kind of schlock-horror party band called the Pink Monkey Birds. Their most recent album, La Araña Es La Vida, was inspired by what Powers calls the spider goddess of Teotihuacan. It’s a fun album, and actually sounds a little like if you threw all his previous bands into a blender. It should be good live show. This one’s early, and Slim Cessna’s Auto Club are also playing.
