Let Justice Roll

Let Justice Roll is a free concert co-presented by the non-profit Stages of Freedom and the First Baptist Church in America (aka the one with the Instagrammable sign at the foot of College Hill). Beginning with a reading of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham City Jail, the performance features original choral works written and conducted by local composer Lawrence Wilson. With the combined choirs of First Baptist and Rumford’s Newman Congregational UCC, the concert concludes with the word premiere of a cantata from composer Mark Miller. Inspired by the Letter from Birmingham City Jail, the cantata (I’m quoting here) “[brings] alive its themes through a tapestry of guest artists with solo performances that include RI sacred jazz pianist Claudius Cooper, New York City baritone Frank Mathis, and Newman Congregational’s own Becky Bass, soprano.”
