Letter from Birmingham Jail

Martin Luther King Jr mug shot

“We can never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was “legal”,” Martin Luther King Jr. wrote in his 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail, “and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was “illegal.” It was “illegal” to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler’s Germany.” It’s an important letter, and Westerly Library is marking MLK Day a little bit early, with a reading of the letter by various community members.* Light refreshments will be provided.
