Linda Ford, The Hatch

The Stickittoer, The Boneher, The Ladykiller: the titles of Linda Ford’s graphite drawings sound dirty, but they’re actually named for Freudian fly-fishing lures, which Ford depicts realistically on the sideways pages of a Moleskine calendar. Angling might seem like a lonely and decidedly unsexy pastime, but Ford makes a convincing case for the metaphors of baiting and hooking, in a series inspired equally by Charles Darwin and her own fisherman father. The show also includes some taxidermied creatures, lures reconcepted as hatpins, and wallpaper depicting an elegant pattern of mayflies mating. The Hatch, the largest piece in the show, is a watercolor made by casting a colored fishing line across the paper.
