The Love Witch is a kitschy bloodbath about a sorceress (Samantha Robinson) with a nasty habit of seducing and then murdering any man who crosses her path. But the movie less about plot and all about style: lots and lots of style, specifically the trashy horror motifs of the early seventies. Director/writer/editor/producer Anna Biller had such a specific vision for this film that she actually composed the score and designed the costumes herself. If you’re familiar with British director Peter Strickland, imagine the schlocky thrills of Berberian Sound Studio combined with the feminist overtones of The Duke of Burgundy.
