Winter gardens are the focus of Lyn Hayden’s botanical paintings and monoprints, currently on display at the AS220 Project Space. In her statement she explains her fascination with the concept, a seventeenth century conservatory that keeps tropical plants alive in cold climates, and how that tied to her own experience visiting Ground Zero in October 2001. Hayden gold paints fresh leaves and delicately presses them on the surface of each canvas. She also creates rather lovely monotype prints of leaves and flowers on white backgrounds. Another suite of paintings reference the changing of the seasons.
