North Kingstown author Lynne Heinzmann has been touring the state since last winter to promote Frozen Voices, her self-published historical novel about the doomed passengers of a real-life boat called the Larchmont. Five years before the Titanic disaster, nearly 150 passengers died three miles off of Watch Hill when the paddle-wheel steamer collided with another ship during a heavy winter storm. Only nine passengers survived, with most freezing to death in the frigid waters. Heinzmann’s book follows four of the ship’s passengers, not all of whom perish at the end; there’s even a cameo from celebrity escape artist Harry Houdini.
