Macbeth is Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy and not coincidentally his tightest, with a scheming couple killing their way to the throne. I haven’t yet made it to Wakefield for Contemporary Theatre Company’s production, starring artistic director Chris Simpson and Tammy Brown as the dysfunctional couple, but the South County papers are all raving – lots of fight choreography and the three witches hovering menacingly throughout the production. This sounds better than the last Macbeth I saw, last year’s film version with Michael Fassbender plodding handsomely through a tent camp that seemed too heavily inspired by Game of Thrones sets. (Note: Thursday shows at Contemporary Theatre Company are always Pay What You Can, or $18 if you get your tickets ahead of time.)
