The sleepy town of Thompson sits in the northeastern corner of Connecticut, less than an hour’s drive from downtown Providence. Have you ever heard of Swamp Yankees? Thompson is (maybe) where they come from! But despite the rural locale, one resident has caused quite a commotion online. Lily Jourdan posted on Twitter that only two people showed up to her 89-year old grandmother’s art show at the town library, and people on the internet immediately began weeping and planning pilgrimages. (The post has been retweeted 18,814 times as of Saturday afternoon.) Here’s a Buzzfeed story, one which claims Magdalene Stift-Jourdan is originally from Montreal when her own bio very clearly states that she was born near the Danube. The painting exhibit runs through May 25, but call before you go to make sure the room’s available.
