Amber Vistein’s ominously titled new chamber opera Man Will Not Outlive The Weather makes its premiere at the Granoff Center. A PhD candidate at Brown, Vistein based each of the opera’s seven movements on a meteorological event – volcano eruption, deep fog, hurricane, and so on – running field recordings through a computer-assisted orchestration program. The opera was written for mezzo-soprano, electronics, and four instruments (flute, cello, piano and percussion). Vistein’s goal is “to create not only a hybrid acoustic ecology, but a mixture of languages: music and speech representing human languages and field recordings representing a natural language.”
Doors open at 7:30 and seating is first come, first served.
