Singer-songwriter Marshall Crenshaw has been touring for close to four decades. Longer, if you count his stint playing John in a Beatles musical. Early single “Someday, Someway”, a #36 pop hit in 1982, is representative of Crenshaw’s jaunty approach to songwriting. On that first album he’s like a cheerier Elvis Costello, with maybe a more authentic American influence. Back then Crenshaw played guitar, his brother played drums, and their good friend was on bass. Now the arrangement’s a little different, and he’s touring with St. Louis country punk quartet The Bottle Rockets, who play their own stuff in addition to backing Crenshaw.
