Maxim Shrayer’s A Russian Immigrant consists of three interconnected novellas about a guy named Simon Reznikov, who travels from Prague and Soviet Estonia to Connecticut and the ghostly Catskills. Describing itself as “a literary manifesto of Russian Jews in America,” the book was published in September by Cherry Orchard Press. Author Maxim Shrayer is himself a Russian immigrant and author of over fifteen titles, in addition to translations and edited collections. He is also co-founder of the Jewish Studies program at Boston College.
