Tina Fey’s sunny 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls was a career peak for young Lindsay Lohan, but it was also a launching point for several other actresses: Rachel McAdams (Spotlight; Game Night) played alpha female Regina George, and Lizzie Caplan (Masters of Sex) played cynical weirdo Janis Ian. Watching it again, though, I was surprised by how many scenes are stolen by a young Amanda Seyfried as the doll-eyed ditz Karen. Though the high school is divided into territorial tribes, it’s actually a very perky movie. There’s no underlying darkness, and any cynicism is mostly carried by Amy Poehler as Regina’s cool mom.
