Rocky Marciano, “The Brockton Blockbuster“, was a heavyweight both literally and figuratively: between 1947 and 1955 he delivered 43 knockouts before retiring undefeated at the age of 31. Thirteen years later, he agreed to make an appearance at the ribbon cutting of an old friend’s insurance company, but Marciano’s plane crashed and he died in a field just outside of Des Moines at the age of 44. The boxer is the subject of Unbeaten, a new biography from Mike Stanton (who wrote Buddy Cianci bio The Prince of Providence). He reads at the Point Street Reading Series along with journalist Mara Altman (Gross Anatomy), historian Keith O’Brien (Fly Girls), and novelist Andrew Martin (Early Work).
