Don’t be misled by the Monotype Guild of New England. Despite the name, it’s a national organization made up of artists who make one of a kind pieces using any number of printing techniques. (You can learn more here.) The Guild’s fourth annual juried exhibition is quite strong, with a nice blend of abstract and representational pieces. Highlights come from Yoshimi Tei (Hawaii), Merrill Shatzman (North Carolina), and Cathie Crawford (Illinois). I only spotted two Rhode Islanders among the hundred or so names: Kate Aitchison of Providence and Bristol’s Kevin Calisto, whose monoprint snagged an honorable mention during the awards.
