It was a little sad this morning driving by all the nice Earth Day volunteers who were standing in the rain picking up litter along the Woonasquatucket River. Dedee Shattuck Gallery is marking the occasion with a (conveniently indoor) screening of a 1969 documentary called Multiply and Subdue the Earth. Emmy-winning director Austin Hoyt, who lives in the area, will be discussing the hour-long film, which aired on a really fascinating proto-PBS program called Public Broadcast Laboratory. There’s a super grainy black and white version on Youtube but this is the real deal. You can RSVP by emailing monica@dedeeshattuckgallery.com or calling 508-636-4177.
