Mezzo soprano Nancy Hood was raised in a leftist family during the McCarthy Era, a frightening time for anyone interested in free speech or the arts. That’s the inspiration for I’ve Got A Song, a performance that combines autobiographical stories with historical slides and songs ranging from spirituals to union songs, along with a love song written for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the only two American civilians executed for espionage during the Cold War. (The Rosenbergs actually were spies, it turns out, although for decades many assumed they were just victims of a Communist witch hunt.) Musician Barry Brown will narrate and accompany Hood on guitar.
