The Newport Contemporary Music Series is a brand new venture bringing a number of renowned composers and performers to Aquidneck Island, including Philip Glass (yay!) and Andre Previn (meh). It’s certainly an unusual series, overlapping as it does with the 50-year old Newport Music Festival. Artistic director Paul Van Anglen is only in his mid-twenties and lives in Paris, and most of the events are taking place in a high school auditorium. This particular concert features pianist Melaine Dalibert and includes world premieres of works by Gérard Pesson [pictured] and Michael Vincent Waller. Notably, this is the only concert in the series to take place in Jamestown, as well as the only one happening in a church.
