Based at URI’s Fine Arts Center, Ocean State Chamber Orchestra performs under music director and conductor Ann Danis, who founded the orchestra in 1990. (It re-formed last year after a twelve-year hiatus.) This concert, the orchestra’s first of the season, includes Mozart’s Divertimento No. 1, K 136 in D Major, composed when Mozart was sixteen; Benjamin Britten’s fun Simple Symphony; a string orchestra arrangement of Shostakovich’s Spanish Dance; and Danzas de Panama, a 1948 interpretation of Panamanian folk tunes by African-American composer William Grant Still.
