I’ve always loved Oklahoma!, so there’s no way I wouldn’t like Trinity Rep’s fuss-free take on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s sunny first collaboration. The show focuses on two very different love triangles: Laurey (Rachael Warren) is a hard-working farm girl forced to chose between wholesome Curly and brooding Jud Fry. But the scene-stealing Ado Annie (Rebecca Gibel) is a girl who just cain’t say no, even if it’s just the peddler who sells broken egg beaters. The action culminates at a fundraiser where men bid on each maiden’s picnic hamper. Oklahoma! seems refreshingly comfortable with female sexuality, especially considering it was written by two dudes in 1943.
