Lemon yellow and the vibrant blue of plastic tarps dominate Paul Anthony Smith’s room-sized installation at PC’s Reilly Gallery. Structured by a cinderblock pattern, one wall is covered with hundreds of randomly repeating photographs of fruits, crustaceans, and the ocean, all part of the culinary heritage of the artist’s native Jamaica. The snapshot-like photos aren’t very engaging individually, but presented as a whole the project suggests optimism despite the fragility of a country whose success depends on tourism.
