The Point Street Reading Series turns 1 this month, and organizer Robin Kall has again selected five authors to read and sign their latest titles at Point Street Dueling Pianos. Of particular note this month is Garrard Conley (pictured), author of Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family. The Lammy-nominated memoir centers around Conley, an Arkansas preacher’s son, and his traumatic experience with ex-gay conversion therapy.* The reading also include memoirist Gloria Norris (KooKooLand), novelist Emily Jeanne Miller (The News From The End of the World), essaying Annabel Monaghan (Does This Volvo Make My Butt Look Big), and YA author Katie Bayeri.
*There’s actually bills running through the Rhode Island legislature right now to ban conversion therapy. Call your legislators and let them know that this abhorrent practice needs to be stopped! A Senate hearing is actually scheduled at the State House for (roughly) 5pm on Tuesday.
