I really highly recommend Prisoners Cinema, a trippy new exhibit at the Gelman Student Exhibitions Gallery. (That’s the one wedged on that half-level between the lobby of the RISD Museum and the rest of the RISD Museum). The space is quite dark, with outside light blocked out. A healthy dose of video and 3-D work colors the gallery – Ziyang Wu’s floor projection is a standout – but I liked the less digital stuff best. The two pieces by photography MFA student Sarah Meadows are particularly good, as well as the linoleum floor sculpture by Jared Akerstrom.
