Korean director Ga-eun Yoon scored rave reviews for The World of Us, a quiet drama about the rise and fall of a friendship between two ten-year old girls from different class backgrounds. Soo-In Choi stars as Sun, a working class student who has trouble making friends at school, partly because South Korea’s education system is so competitive. Her life changes for the better when she meets a transfer student from a more comfortable background, but outside forces quickly begin to strain the budding friendship.
The Providence Children’s Film Festival runs through the weekend, with lots of daytime screenings since it’s vacation week for public schools.
