I was hired as Marketing Coordinator for this year’s PVDFest, so 1) I’m biased in telling you to go, but also 2) you should totally go. Most likely I’ll be spend the whole weekend running around while obsessively checking Facebook to make sure that no one’s too upset about anything. But! It’s a big festival – 18 stages on Saturday alone! – and a fairly small footprint that allows you to wander freely. Also, 99% of the festival is free! Discovery is encouraged and if you don’t like something you can just walk on and/or stop at one of the 28 outdoor bars we’ll have set up.
I made myself a cheat sheet of the performances I’d like to see over the weekend. I’m living in some sort of techno-hellscape right now so I handwrote my daily picks, then because my scanner was being fickle I photographed them with my phone and emailed them to myself and then Photoshopped them for about 30 seconds each so that they’re at least slightly readable. They’re also scaled to print, in case you felt like printing a lot of gray today. Most everything I listed is free except for the north dinner and maybe a couple of the AS220 events. Check PVDFest.com for more details about everything.
Note: the festival technically ends at 6pm on Sunday, but the Day of Portugal continues late, there’s a special WaterFire basin lighting, and AS220 is kicking off its week-long Queer Arts Festival with… pro wrestling? I’m so there.
