PVDLoop (more formally: The Providence Y2K18 International Live Looping Festival) is back at AS220 for a two-night event featuring a bunch of local performers as well as acts from Sweden (Per Boysen), Japan (MANDOMAN), and no less than three projects from France. The thing that unites these mostly solo musicians is a love of looping, layering their own sounds on top of one another via pedals and stuff, which can be used to great effect if done well. Friday’s highlights include Sweetpea Pumpkin (the solo project of Providence slam poet Muggs Fogarty), plus sets by Omnivore (aka Glenna Van Nostrand) and a set by pvdloop founder Laurie Amat. See the website for the full Friday and Saturday schedules, which include workshops on Saturday afternoon and a chance for folks to touch some of the equipment.
