David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2006 play Rabbit Hole looks at suburban parents coping with the death of their only son, a preschool-aged kid who chased the family dog into the path of an oncoming car. It’s a sad play, but not a hopeless one, and it’s got meaty roles for actors. (Cynthia Nixon won a Tony for playing the grieving mom, and Nicole Kidman got an Oscar nomination for playing the same role in John Cameron Mitchell’s little-seen adaptation.) The Community Players, Rhode Island’s oldest community theater, is tackling the play, with Dan Fisher and Tammy Mulrooney playing the leads.
