The Rhode Island Writers Colony kicked off four years ago in Warren. Founded by brothers Brook and John Stephenson, the two-week residency is open specifically to emerging writers of color who work in all genres. At the halfway point of their residency, this year’s four writers (Elizabeth Acevedo, Johnalynn Holland, Christine Patrick, and Te Smith) are reading together at AS220. They’re all out-of-towners and boast impressive pedigrees, so this is an unusual opportunity to hear some brand-new work from poets and writers you might not see around here again.
