Every year, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts awards cash prizes to six writers – two each for fiction, poetry, and playwriting/screenwriting. Five sixths of this year’s winners are gathering to read from their work: fiction writer Darcie Dennigan, poets Julie Danho O’Connell and Catherine Imbriglio, and playwrights Christopher Johnson and Kevin Broccoli. The center is also currently hosting an exhibit of work by roughly two dozen fellows and merit winners in the visual arts.
By the way, if you’re interested in submitting your writing for next year,’s fellowships you’ll need to act quickly! The deadline for the next round of fellowships is April 1 – that includes all writers as well as visual artists working in crafts, folk arts, film and video, photography, and three-dimensional art.
