Robert Earl Keen has never had a hit song – well, unless you count holiday favorite“Merry Christmas from the Family.” Nevertheless, the Texan troubadour has been at it since 1984, amassing what Rolling Stone calls “a passionate fan base of rednecks, hippies, frat boys and country scholars.” Now in his early sixties, Keen comes to the Knick to perform all his drunk Texan non-hits (“Honeymoon Gringo,” “Feelin’ Good Again”) and some covers; he’s big on Tom Petty’s “American Girl”. Just don’t expect the Christmas number. Keen saves that one for after Labor Day.
