The Newport Music Festival rolls on several daily concerts over the next two weeks. Today there’s a morning concert at The Elms featuring five Russian composers. The focal point is Anton Arensky’s lovely Piano Quintet in D Major, composed in 1900. The concert also features works by Rachmaninoff, Reinhold Glière, and César Cui, as well as something from Stravinsky. Looking for an image to run with the post led me down a wormhole of Stravinsky photos, of which there are many. He wasn’t very handsome but he was certainly photogenic, as you can tell from the Richard Avedon photograph where he’s clad in a black coat, hat, and sunglasses.
