Simmering the Sea

One of this year’s quirkier Dorrys categories is Small Book of the Year, which pits comics against a zine against an anthology of work written by high school students. There’s also a cookbook, Simmering the Sea: Diversifying Cookery to Sustain Our Fisheries. A collaborative effort between URI, Johnson & Wales, and the nonprofit Eating with the Ecosystem, the book offers instructions on cooking some underappreciated fish and shellfish that live in local waters. Co-author Sarah Schumann will talk about the book and also share research from a citizen science project tracking the availability of local seafood in the local marketplace.
