I have a sense of foreboding every time I visit East Providence Cinemas, the sticky-floored movie house where tickets are mostly $3 (or $2 on Recession Tuesdays and Thursdays). Second-run movie theaters have been steadily disappearing from the national landscape over the past decade or so, which is maybe why the former Patriot has been dipping its toes into different types of movies lately. They regularly screen new releases from India (at full price), for instance. Mostly, though, they still show movies that recently disappeared from the bigger theaters – this week that includes the well-reviewed bloodfeast Upgrade and atypical indie drama The Rider.
