Acclaimed author Sigrid Nunez is currently writer in residence at the James Merrill House, the national historic landmark bought in the 1950s by the mystical gay poet and his partner. Nunez has written a memoir and seven novels, most recently The Friend; written largely in the second person, it’s an account of a woman picking up the pieces after her mentor’s suicide, and the Great Dane she inherits in the process. Nunez will read from her work, followed by a reception and book signing at the La Grua Center for the Arts.
By the way, if you’re a writer looking for a residency in sleepy seaside Connecticut, the Merrill House is taking applications for 2020 residents. The application period closes on Tuesday, though.
