Accompanied by just a bass, Polish noise artist SIKSA released the album Stabat Mater Dolorosa last summer. Now she’s turned it into a musical or something? According to the blurb on the AS220 website, it’s “a performative dream of making a movie come true, where both the dream and the movie are like chewing gum that has been tasteless for too long.” Singing, spitting, occasionally screaming, she’s clearly got lots to say, and luckily her Bandcamp page offers lyrics in both Russian and English. (Translated sample lyrics: “How many matches do you need to set my ex-boyfriend on fire? His dream was to become a king. Seriously! That’s a really manly occupation, you have to admit!”) Despite its abrasive moments it’s actually got some heart, though.
