Simone White

poet simone white

“Sometimes I notice a black woman unknown to me, not homeless, whose legs or feet or hands are so ashy that I wonder whether she has lost her mind.” That’s from Simone White’s long, conversational poem “Lotion”, which appears in her collection Of Being Dispersed. White’s writing has been described as “relentless and exhilarating,” and last year she was one of ten recipients of the prestigious Whiting Award. A poet and critic, she’s reading at Brown’s McCormack Family Theater. This seems like a good kickoff for National Poetry Month.
