I’m looking forward to Stella Ebner’s solo exhibition at Cade Tompkins Projects, opening this weekend and running through mid-December. I hardly ever recommend openings — especially if I haven’t seen the work in person yet — but I’ll make an exception in this case because the east side gallery is otherwise open only by appointment. Ebner’s off-kilter screen prints, woodblock prints, and watercolor monoprints depict mostly mundane scenes—leopards in a jewelry store window display, or a teenager and a napping dog ignoring a chess board, but you can sense something deeper buried beneath the stillness.
