Stephen Brownell’s new solo show features small bridge paintings that highlight little details over expansive vistas. His Newport Bridge, for instance, features not the grand arch of the 50-year old suspension bridge, but instead shows a low horizontal section, not much more than a highway overpass, seen near the Jamestown base of the bridge. Other highlights include corners of truss bridges, the kind once used by freight trains but now more commonly seen on converted bike paths and walking trails. Alicia Renadette’s altered sheet of dollar bills is worth a peek in the adjacent reading room.
