I personally loved Luca Guadagnino’s 2018 reimagining of Suspiria, the story of a German dance academy doubling as a front for a supernatural coven; it’s a strange, unsettling study of the drab blues and grays of East Germany in the seventies, set to a Thom Yorke score that’s more interesting than anything else Radiohead has done in the last ten years. I’m excited to see Dario Argento’s splashy red original on a big screen. A new restoration is one of six recently restored films playing at the Granoff this weekend, part of the annual Cinema Ritrovato at Brown festival. There’s even free gelato if you get there early.
