Taylor Mac’s 24-Hour Concert Was One of the Great Experiences of My Life, a New York Times headline announced on October 10, 2016. People I knew who were in the audience said the same thing. In a series of wild drag costumes, judy ran through 246 songs dating back to the 18thcentury and leading up to the present day, to demonstrate largely unheard (or, undersung?) moments of American history through a queer lens. FirstWorks and Brown Arts Initiative have brought Mac in for a residency, culminating in Taylor Mac: A 24-Decade History of Popular Music (Abridged). Audience participation will probably be required during this two-hour, condensed version of the show.*
*If you’d like to see all 24 hours and like to travel, judy’s doing the whole thing over four nights in Berlin in October.
