If there’s any silver lining to be found in our present political climate, I’m hoping it comes in a renaissance of Russian spy fiction. Just like in olden times, right? English superspy Alexander Hawke has actually been around since 2003, frequently butting heads with Vladimir Putin in Ted Bell’s series of action thrillers. The latest is Overkill, in which Hawke’s son is dramatically whisked off a mountain in a helicopter. Putin is also midair, biding his time hovering over Europe after being ousted in a coup. There’s talk of an upcoming movie based on the series. Maybe Russian envoy Steven Seagal can make an appearance.
