Based in the Mathewson Street building with the giant mural on the side, Tenderloin Opera Company is staging a new performance entitled The Chronicles of KP2: Legs, Goons, and Do-Gooders. Though the name suggests otherwise, Tenderloin Opera Company isn’t the sort of company that’s going to do Carmen or the Ring cycle anytime soon. It’s a really unique music and theatre group comprised of those who have experienced homelessness, primarily in the Kennedy Plaza area, along with their advocates. Over 20 company members collectively wrote the show over the past year, and it looks at real-life issues (police harassment) with some that aren’t so real, at least not yet (saving the city from an evil real estate developer’s robot army, for instance). The hour-long show is free and includes free cookies, though they’re also accepting donations to support the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless. (You should give if you can!)
