I’m not normally compelled to recommend art shows coinciding with the farmers market, but gallerist Candita Clayton wisely set the hours of her Hope Artiste Village space to coincide with the indoor winter market, kicking off in the mill’s endless halls this week. Mimo Gordon Riley’s birch-filled landscapes are appealing, but the show’s real draw is Neal T. Walsh’s heavily layered paintings, largely monochromatic assemblages which Walsh repeatedly deconstructs and rebuilds. The large Blue Ruin suggests all the failures of industry, while the bandagey purple canvas stripes in Edges (twlight) hover ambiguously between landscape and tourniquet.
