Richard Gere and Steve Coogan play brothers in The Dinner, a sadistic psychological thriller set at an impossibly fancy restaurant. Gere’s Senator is planning a gubernatorial run; Coogan plays a history teacher with some mental issues. Their sons have just committed a particularly awful murder, and they gather with their wives (Laura Linney and Rebecca Hall) to figure out a plan. Based on Herman Koch’s 2009 bestseller, this marks the book’s third film adaptation in five years. (It was previously tackled by Dutch and Italian directors.) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 might be more fun, but check this out if you’re interested in pure evil.
