Wedged between the Grammys and the Oscars, the Dorrys are Rhode Island’s answer to awards season, with a January 27 reception celebrating this year’s 65 previously announced winners. The awards will be held at The Good Will Engine Company, a new hostel/venue located at 41 Central Street in Providence (or, where Firehouse 13 used to be, to be really Rhode Islandy about it).
If you’re new here, The Dorrys are unique because they’re decided by a mix of reader picks and jury voting. The categories cover Art, Books, Drama, Film, Music, and Performing Arts. Click here for the full list of winners. The Dorrys also present awards to six non-profit organizations, which this year geared heavily towards the youth of Providence: Community MusicWorks, New Urban Arts, Girls Rock RI, Providence Children’s Film Festival, and Manton Avenue Project will each receive an award, along with local author resource ARIA.
Thanks to The Good Will Engine Company; DWRI Letterpress, who made this year’s awards; LLAMAproduct for all design work; Nicks on Westminster for food; Lisa Limer of Bela Monde for photography; and also to Jason Tranchida, Kath Connolly, and volunteers Chris Donovan and Dee Hovey for working the event.
