A confluence of events (okay Foo Fest and my dad’s birthday) prevented me from making the opening weekend of The Knight of the Burning Pestle, Head Trick Theatre’s outdoor staging of Francis Beaumont’s 1607 comedy. It’s definitely intriguing, though! It’s a meta sort of adventure where two theatre patrons attend something called The London Merchant but then interrupt the play with the own opinions of how the story should move forward, including a starring role for their young apprentice. Head Trick Theatre artistic director Rebecca Maxfield describes it as “Monty Python meets Don Quixote.”
The play takes place across from the Narragansett Boat House on River Road, the windy park on the Seekonk River.
