There’s not much point analyzing the plot of The Lobster, a sci-fi film that favors lush landscapes and surreal dialogue to any sort of special effects wizardry. There’s a pretty high body count – human and animal – by the end of the film, and that’s all I’ll say. It’s the first English language film from from Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), and it’s slow-moving nonsense in the best possible way. I’m not sure who thought American audiences would appreciate a Charlie Kaufman-esque dystopian comedy starring Rachel Weisz and dadbod Colin Farrell, but the few other folks in the Providence Place theater were either laughing hysterically or sighing loudly the whole time.
