The Muppets made their big screen debut in the summer of 1979, with Kermit and the gang taking a very meta roadtrip to make a movie in Hollywood. Warm but weird, it played off the success of The Muppet Show (which was then in its third season), tugging at the heartstrings (“The Rainbow Connection”) while remaining really weird, as in the scene where Kermit avoids a duel in a wild west ghost town. The 40thanniversary screening is for two days only.
The Muppet Movie is playing at Showcase Cinemas (Providence Place/Quaker Lane only) and Regal Cinemas (Swansea/Bellingham/Stonington).
