Local children’s book author Chris Van Allsburg skipped town awhile ago now, but Festival Ballet returns to the popular author’s work in The Widow’s Broom, a kid-friendly ballet that the company commissioned back in 2004. It’s a seasonally appropriate story about a bunch of witches and an anthropomorphic broom. Exhausted by his employer, the broom ends up living with a widow and her young son. This will certainly give Van Allsburg fans something to tide themselves over until Christmas, when they can head to the movies for extremely belated Jumanji sequel starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Nick Jonas.
